皆さんがこのような質問を周りにいる子ども達からされたらどう答えますか？

約１００年前にVirginiaという８歳の女の子が、当時のニューヨーク地元紙”the Sun”に宛てた手紙の中で、この質問をしました。
Francis Churchというライターが新聞記事の中で次のように返答しました。

“Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Clause. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist…Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is not a sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor adults can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that is not proof that they are not there… No Santa Claus? Thank God he lives, and lives forever. A thousand years from now, Virginia, no, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make the hearts of children glad.”
